On behalf of the Board and Community of Saint Katherine Orthodox Christian Church, it is my pleasure to announce the selection of Mrs. Mary Simmons as our Director of Community Relations.
Mary was received into the Orthodox Christian Church back in 2010, shortly after Saint Katherine's relocated to South Carolina and was still meeting in a house on Sunday mornings for the Liturgy. She has two Associates degrees; 1) Associate of Arts in Video Technology from the Pittsburgh Art Institute and 2) Associate of Arts in Business Management from the ICM School of Business.
Mary is no stranger to the people of Pelion, Gaston, and Swansea, or to the many people she has befriended on Social Media and relationships she's built in the local area after living in Pelion for the last 14+ years. People who know Mary are always impressed with how outgoing, pleasant, and open she is to the views and ideas of other people. She is also one of the most dedicated people you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting.
Mary is an inspiration to the people of Saint Katherine's and beyond. Despite a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis, with God's help, nothing keeps her down and out. She's most well known for her handiwork with a camera, helping small businesses market their products and lighting the occasional fire under her husband to get him out of bed and to church early!
She's never satisfied with "second best" or "good enough" when it comes to our Church and taking care of her family. She is sure to serve our Church and the broader communities of Pelion, Gaston, and Swansea in bringing people together while spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ using her God given talents.
In addition to her two adult children, her and her husband, Mr. Tony Simmons, have two wonderful children still living with them and attending Saint Katherine's.
Please join us in welcoming and supporting Mary in this new role for our Church, keep her in your prayers, and watch for lots of information and activities especially on Social Media outlets and flyers in the local area.
